Wyoming Ski Resort Has A New Owner

Bighorn National Forest, Wyoming — Earlier this winter, it was announced that a Wyoming ski area would be sold by June 1st. Based on recent moves, it appears that a new owner has been found.
This week, Meadowlark Ski & Lake Lodge revealed that it is under new management. It has been acquired by MAS Tierra, a newly formed company created by MAS Alpha Securities. The company, founded by Jose Mas, Jr., is a Florida firm that invests in various properties.
“Meadowlark Ski & Lake Lodge has been a beloved destination for decades and I intend to maintain that integrity, while also expanding the offering,” said Mas. “The main goal is to respect the natural environment and atmosphere, while also stewarding a grounding, elevated and engaging experience.”
According to their press release, some of their early improvements include creating a “program built around authentic immersion in the Bighorn mountains [I have no idea what that means], with the desire to include future offerings of a range of excursions, nature exploration, and guided tours through open terrain.”
“Having lived in Colorado, I’ve seen many mountain destinations become diluted experiences. Meadowlark offers a rare opportunity to remain truly connected to the land,” added Mas. “You cannot replicate this environment or the feeling it evokes. The idea is to simply build upon what has always been extraordinary.”
There is some concern amongst locals, who fear a conversion of the experience into something similar to what we’ve seen at New York’s Windham Mountain Club. Some are even pledging to get season passes at Antelope Butte instead. However, the Wyoming ski area has yet to refer to its air as rarified.
Here was the thoughtful response by the new management team to one skeptic:
“We understand the hesitation, but we’re here with a real respect for Meadowlark and the community around it. Our goal is to build something that honors what’s been here while investing into its future for the long run. Hope we can earn your trust along the way and we look forward to welcoming you out here this winter season!
Additionally, we’d love to hear more about your stories at Meadowlark over the years! Our website has a section to share your story and experience. Looking forward to connecting further from there!
Lastly, we’re beginning to build our early access Season Pass list. If you sign up online, you’ll be the first to stay in the loop on updates and upcoming details.”
About Meadowlark Ski & Lake Lodge
The ski area itself is on the smaller side of Wyoming’s ski industry, but it still has some fun terrain. Known as the “Little Jackson Hole” of the Big Horns, Meadowlark features 35 trails across 230 acres with two lifts. It’s a snowy spot, averaging around 300 inches of snow each year. At the base area is a rustic 15,000-square-foot base lodge, which features a food court, a lodge space for diners, rentals, a ski patrol room, a retail shop, and a ticket office. In the summer, the ski area serves as a wedding venue.
Located a short drive away from the ski area is the Meadowlark Lake Lodge. This resort features 15 cabins (including 10 that were recently renovated), 4 duplexes, 6 motel rooms, a restaurant with employee housing on the upper floor, and a marina. With convenient access to Meadowlark Lake, there are activities like fishing, kayaking, and swimming.
