Cervinia Intends to Offer Year-Round Skiing
The Italian resort of Cervinia is linked to the glacier in neighbouring Zermatt in Switzerland.
It is now able to offer summer access to the glacier following the opening of the new lift, the ‘Matterhorn Alpine Crossing’ that links to top of the Italian resort to the Klein-Matterhorn in Zermatt at 3,883m.
The area has with 25 km of slopes, which make it the largest and highest summer skiable domaine in Europe.

The glacier can be reached from Cervinia in just over 30 minutes using the ski lifts and slopes.
“Cervinia and Plateau Rosà have become the training ground for the World Cup national and international teams,” said the resort.
“The slopes are ideal for the champions (on slopes reserved to them), but they are also suitable for more scenic skiing.
“Riders have the Snowpark Zermatt as a go-to point, the largest freestyle facility (complete with big air) on a glacier.”
The Warren Smith Ski Academy has been using Cervinia as a base for summer skiing for several years.

Hintertux made the announcement of the end to year-round skiing on its web site.
It will open to 26th July and then shuts.
“After that, we’ll enjoy the glacier summer to the fullest off the slopes,” said the resort.
Skiing is expected to restart in September 2026 and the ‘Hintertux Park Opening’ is scheduled for early October.
Hintertux does not say whether this is a permanent end to year-round skiing, or just for this year.
