Have $1? You Can Ski at This Utah Resort On Friday

Skiers rightly spend a lot of time grumbling about the price of modern lift tickets. $250 for a day of skiing? $300?! It has, at many major destinations, become cost-prohibitive to ski without picking up a season pass first.

But there’s more to the story, namely at Brian Head, Utah, which just tacked another day onto its season and is offering $1 lift tickets. Yes, you read that right.

The deal applies to the bonus date of Friday, May 1, 2026. Brian Head will also be open on May 2 and May 3, the last two days of the season.

“We are grateful for the hard work of the Brian Head team that enabled us to launch May skiing in Utah,” said Tom Pettigrew, general manager at Brian Head Resort, in a press release. “And we’re excited to enable skiing for all by offering $1 lift tickets.”

On Friday, Brian Head plans to open 12 trails served by the Giant Steps Express and the new Giant Steps conveyor lift. Given the time of year, this is far less than Brian Head’s usual fleet of runs and lifts, but for $1, you’d be hard-pressed to find a better deal right now.

Across the broader ski economy, cheap tickets are unusual. This is less true for Brian Head.

Like other resorts in the Mountain Capital Partners group, it offers lift tickets in advance at pricing that increases with demand. On occasion, that’s led to soaring prices, as when Arizona Snowbowl charged over $300 for a ticket, but it also means you could pay $20 if you time it right. Or, in this case, $1.

Brian Head’s final weekend of skiing bookends what you could reasonably call a terrible, no good season for Utah skiers. While there have been powder days, resorts have, overall, seen far less snow than usual. And after a March heat wave, many began shutting down earlier than usual.

That makes Brian Head one of only three ski resorts planning to operate this weekend, alongside Snowbird and Brighton. Snowbird hasn’t announced a closing date yet, while Brighton plans to end the season on May 3, like Brian Head.

Following the bonus date, Brian Head is hosting a slew of closing celebration festivities, including a raffle and a live DJ on Saturday. Costumes are encouraged.
