The Season of 2025/26 Draws to a Close

Les Arcs, La Plagne & Verbier were amoung resorts ending their seasons on Sunday 26th April.

Tignes, Argentiere, Cervinia, Engelberg, Ischgl, & Pitztal call it a day next Sunday on May 3rd.

“There’s still a lot snow to ski in Tignes and Val d’Isere during the last week of the 25/26 season,” said PlanetSKI reader, David Morgan.

“Beautiful spring weather continues with freeze/thaw conditions.”

“Pistes are hard first thing but are quickly softening up particularly on south facing slopes.

“Despite the warm temperatures, some good spring snow pitches can be found off piste if you are in the right place at the right time.

“Tignes is now very quiet with just 34.5% occupancy and Val d’Isere has 29%.

“In Tignes the Les BrĂ©vières sector and many bars are closed.”

So if you fancy a late and last-minute trip to the mountains there is still something on offer in the Alps.

Over in the USA the resorts of Alta, Loveland and Big Sky shut on Sunday, April 26.

One resort, Breckenridge, re-opened for a day on Saturday 25 April after some fresh snow

After a poor winter in the US Rockies there has been some late-season snowfall with some areas pushing back their closing dates.

Fresh snowfall in April has extended the ski season at Palisades Tahoe in California.

In Colorado another storm is rolling in with plenty of rain forecast, and snow at altitude in the mountains.

Arapahoe Basin in Colorado has announced it will be offering skiing until Sunday, May 3rd.

The resort’s season will have lasted 194 days – the longest this season in Colorado.

A-Basin will tie with Copper Mountain Resort for the latest closing in Summit County this year, as Copper, originally slated to close April 26, announced last week it has extended its season through to May 3rd.

In Montana the Flathead Avalanche Center is warning backcountry skiers to exercise caution in northwest Montana mountains as new snow has created dangerous avalanche conditions.

The Flathead Avalanche Center Director, Blase Reardon, said new spring snow is causing avalanches on wind-loaded slopes near ridgelines.

He said avalanche danger is higher at elevations above 6,000 feet, especially on steep slopes.

Advice: Resort openings at this time of year are highly dependent on the snow conditions so do check with the resorts for their latest information about openings and closings.

We have done our very best to ensure that all dates are accurate, but changes are made.
