Watch Skis Get Made at Denver's Newest Bar

In a corner of Denver, you can now order drinks in the same place that skis get made.

Earlier this month, Meier Skis opened The Couloir, a bar inside its Denver factory. From a stool, bargoers can watch as Meier puts together new skis. They order from the aptly named “skitenders.”

The space doubles as a shop, and Meier offers tunes at the factory, too, meaning aside from the snow itself, skiers can get almost everything associated with their favorite sport that they need. Live music is also on the calendar, with the next act on May 1.

Overall, according to Meier’s website, The Couloir “blends handcrafted skis, mountain culture, and a laid-back bar atmosphere into one unique space.”

If you want to check it out, the bar’s open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Thursday through Saturday. Sunday through Wednesday, The Couloir instead closes at 8 p.m. Like any good watering hole, happy hours are on tap if you show up at the right time.

“There’s nowhere else in the world where you can sit down with a drink and watch skis being made right in front of you,” Ted Eynon, CEO of Meier Skis, said in an announcement. “We’ve always believed in making the ski-building process visible. The Couloir turns that into something people can experience.”

For more nerding-out, Meier also offers $35 tours of the factory, giving a closer look at how skis go from hunks of wood to finished products.

It’s not the only brand to delve into food-and-drink crossovers. RMU has bar locations in Truckee, Whistler, and Breckenridge. J Skis runs the Intergalactic Headquarters in Burlington, a ski shop crossed with an après hangout.

Having a cold beverage after skiing is great. It’s even better when you’re surrounded by like-minded people in a place purpose-built for skiers. At The Couloir, the mantra is this: “Après Every Day.”
