Spring Skiing in Scotland

Spring Skiing in Scotland

Spring in the highlands often produce some of the best conditions as the ‘lambing storms’ often top up the snow for Easter, and this year has been no exception.
Cairngorm has the best of it, with easy access to the higher skiing via the funicular, and conditions have been fantastic  over the last couple of weeks.

Most years the ‘Cas’ run remains the best option to ski to mid station late season, however due to the huge build of snow from the Easterlies early season, the white lady has been in superb shape; huge, wide cover – probably the best it’s been in years.
There’s plenty of cruisy skiing up top as well as an extensive snow park for the freestylers.
So a real mix of terrain to suit everyone.

The hill was spookily quiet, so a real pleasure just to ski straight onto all the uplift.

We visited Glencoe last Tuesday.

The upper mountain was awesome, with plenty of fresh snow and all the higher runs open with great cover.
A mix of groomed and ungroomed runs to suit all tastes.
Although mid mountain snow cover was thin we could still ski to the cafe and the bottom of the ‘cliffy chair’.
All in all a great experience for advanced and expert skiers.

There was a second snow factory being delivered while we were there, to be operational next season.

According to Andy Meldrum the Glencoe boss, the addition of a new rope-tow coupled with the extra snow making means they can expand the beginner/sledging hub by the cafe as well as using surplus snow to top up the areas around the lower mountain in general.

This is great news for the future of Glencoe mountain, as the income from families enjoying the snow-sure sledging is a great diversification and extra income for this iconic highland ski area.
