Plenty of Good Skiing Still on Offer in the Alps

Plenty of Good Skiing Still on Offer in the Alps

It has been one of the best ends to a ski season in the Alps in recent years with fresh snow and generally a good covering at altitude.

This weekend sees the resorts of Les3Vallees close – except for Val Thorens that continues until May 3rd.

Also closing the curtains this weekend on the 2025/26 season in France are Alpe dHuez, Avoriaz, Flaine & Serre Chevalier.

In Austria St Anton and Lech call it a day.

While in Switzerland Sass-Fee, Arosa-Lenzerheide & Andermatt-Sedrun all close their lifts.

In Italy Champoluc is amoung the resorts ending the season.

However, some resorts remain open for another week with Les Arcs, La Plagne & Verbier closing the following weekend on Sunday April 26th.

Norway can also be a good bet for end of season skiing with Trysil & Narvik closing on April 26th.

Tignes, Argentiere, Cervinia, Engelberg, Ischgl, & Pitztal shut the following Sunday on May 3rd.

The first weekend in May is traditionally seen as the end of the main European ski season.

However, after that the Austrian glacier resorts of Stubai (May 17th), Kaunertal (May 25th), Kitzsteinhorn (May 25th) and Moltal ((tbc) remain open.

We have skied in Stubai near Innsbruck in the second half of May with fresh powder snow falling.

Hintertux in Austria and Zermatt in Switzerland continue to be open across the summer if the weather conditions allow.

The French glacier resort of Les2Alpes used to offer summer skiing.

Now Les2Alpes shuts its winter season on May 3rd and then re-opens on May 4th for its ‘Spring Season’ that ends on July 5th.

So if you fancy a late and last-minute trip to the mountains there is still plenty on offer.

Our recommendations at PlanetSKI would be Tignes, Val Thorens, Zermatt or Cervinia.

And if you like electronic music then Tignes is rounding off the winter with the second edition of the Tignes Unlimited Festival, from 25th April to 3rd May 2026.

There are several stages spread across the slopes and in the resort, including one at an altitude of 2,704 metres (Tovière).

The Tignes Unlimited EDM festival features open-air concerts, daytime DJ sets right on the slopes, and festive evenings in the resort.

In total, around ten world-renowned artists will perform, including Purple Disco Machine, Moblack and Agents Of Time.

Warning: Resort openings at this time of year are highly dependent on the snow conditions so do check with the resorts for their latest information about openings and closings.

We have done our very best to ensure that all dates are accurate, but changes are made.
