The 11 East Coast Ski Resorts Still Open, and When They Plan To Close

The 11 East Coast Ski Resorts Still Open, and When They Plan To Close

With the winter the West has had, it’s hardly a surprise that the Eastern U.S. is still faring better in ski conditions than the rest of the country. Although California and the PNW seem to be getting a chunk of weird, late-season precipitation.

Early winter was kind to New England and the East Coast, and the snow has held on well with continued cold temperatures.

Even so, Spring is well on its way, and ski areas are starting to shut down for the season. Most eastern ski areas stop spinning lifts by mid-April or early May in a normal year, unlike some spots in the PNW that have glacier skiing into the summer.

However, this year, a few spots are snowmaking and keeping lifts running on bonus weekends to make the most of all that snow.

If you’re in the east and planning out your last few lift-accessed turns of the season, here are the ski resorts that are still open.

Black Mountain, New Hampshire, is currently open from Friday to Sunday and has 50% of its terrain operating. The ski area has gotten more than 130″ of snow this season and with the help of a newly updated snowmaking system, Black Mountain is still cranking out manmade snow as well.

The resort’s GM, Erik Mogensen, who is also in charge of the Indy Pass, recently published a letter announcing that Black Mountain would be open through Memorial Day for skiing. It seems the New Hampshire ski area might be giving western destinations a run for their money this year.

Black Mountain isn’t the only eastern ski area taking advantage of snowmaking to extend its season. The ski area ended daily operations on April 12, but is reopening on the weekends until the first weekend in May, conditions permitting.

Temperatures at Camelback are hanging out in the mid 70s, which might impact those plans, but hey, if you can’t ski, Camelback also has an indoor waterpark to enjoy.
