Montana’s Second-Largest Ski Resort Had Surprisingly Successful Season

Whitefish, Montana The Western U.S. ski season saw well-below-average snowfall, and Whitefish was no exception to that. Whitefish saw only 207 inches, below their nearly 300-inch average. Despite that, their metrics were still pretty good.

The Whitefish Pilot reports that Whitefish Mountain Resort recieved around 457,000 skier visits during the 2025-26 season. This was 8% below the prior winter, which was affected by the low-snow season and reluctance among Canadian travelers to visit for political reasons. Despite that, this was still Whiteifhs’s fifth-highest skier visitation ever during a ski season. In addition, their holiday period saw their two busiest days ever. Their busiest winter ever was the 2022-23 season, which saw 500,000 skier visits.

The 2025-26 Season

Prior to the season, Whitefish made various upgrades. This included clearing overgrowth on trails and glades totaling 180 acres, helping them keep over 90% of the terrain open throughout the season. Other upgrades include reintroducing the wok station at the Base Lodge Café, acquiring two new snow groomers and two new TechnoAlpin snowmaking guns, and expanding cell coverage for AT&T and Verizon users.

Also worth noting is how they concluded the winter. Whitefish closed on their scheduled closing date, April 5th, which is something a lot of mountains can’t say. The summit was still holding strong, as it had a 95-inch base to conclude the season. They ended their season with a festive pond skim.

Whitefish is an interesting mountain not only for its terrain, but also for what it’s not a part of. Despite its size, Whitefish isn’t a part of any multi-mountain pass, but its lift tickets ($115 for an adult) are priced at a point that makes a vacation there affordable. This has increased guest visitation in recent years, as people want to check out a place off the beaten path.

The summer season is set to begin on May 23rd, with daily operations starting on June 13th.
