Investigation After British Snowboarder Dies in La Plagne
The emergency services were alerted to the disappearance at around 2.15pm last Saturday and patrols were sent out in the Bécoin area of La Plagne.
A passing off piste skier is reported to have discovered the body.
A spokesman for the police mountain rescue unit said: “The victim is thought to have fallen at least one hundred meters from a rocky ledge in an off-piste area.”
He was declared dead at the scene and his body was airlifted from the scene of the accident by helicopter.
The local prosecutor has launched an investigation.
Last January in La Plagne a British man in his 50s died in an avalanche while skiing off piste.
31 people have died in avalanches in France this winter.
