Charlotte Bankes Takes Britain’s Second Crystal Globe Of 25-26
Britain’s first ever woman Olympic Gold-Medalist on snow, Charlotte Bankes, has added another Snowboard Cross (SBX) World Cup Crystal Globe to her bulging trophy cabinet .
Bankes third career Globe came having begun the day’s racing in Mt St Anne at the top of the standings, before coming through for her fifth individual podium and third victory of the 2026 season, adding to Team SBX wins alongside Huw Nightingale in the Cervinia World Cup in December and, most famously, at the Olympic Winter Games last month.
Charlotte Bankes has not had a perfect season, starting out her return to competition after breaking her collarbone in training in Mont-Sainte-Anne last year with ninth in Cervinia. But she bounced back with a win in Dongbeiya, China, and since then has been one of the leading contenders for the Crystal Globe.
Coming into the last race, Bankes held a 13-point lead over last year’s Globe winner, Lea Casta (FRA) and was 34 points ahead of Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games champion Josie Baff (AUS).
There’s a video of the race here.
Bankes’ victory cements her position as one of Britain’s finest ever snowsport athletes, and one of the greatest Snowboard Cross racers of all time with a scarcely credible thirty World Cup victories now to her name. She has previously won the SBX Crystal Globe trophy in both 2022 and 2023.
Commenting on Charlotte’s success and that of Kirsty Muir in Freeski earlier on Saturday, GB Snowsport’s Head Coach Pat Sharples added: “I don’t think there could have been a better way for Charlotte and Kirsty to end their seasons than we’ve seen today, both taking away Crystal Globes. It shows their consistency against the best in the world right through this whole season.”
“It’s absolutely fantastic, and we’re incredibly proud of both of them, as well as the whole wider GB Snowsport coaching and support team who’ve worked tirelessly through this whole winter. The entire team have done an incredible job, and to end the season on a high like this is just reward for all the hard work from everyone involved with GB Snowsport.”
Elsewhere yesterday, in Telemark, Jasmin Taylor secured her twelfth World Cup podium of the season, and second in two days, with bronze in the Parallel Sprint in Les Contamines Montojoie. The result gives Taylor a third PS podium of the season, and follows her gold medal winning performance in Friday’s Classic race.
The FIS Snowboard Cross World Cup will return next winter with more exciting racing. The highlight of the 2026/27 season will be the FIS Snowboard, Freestyle and Freeski World Championships 2027 in Montafon, Austria, in March.
