Italian Bike Racer Launched Over Guardrail (5 Broken Ribs & Shoulder Microfracture)

MILAN — Italian cyclist Debora Silvestri said she suffered five broken ribs and a shoulder microfracture after a crash during the Milan-San Remo one-day race. Silvestri, age 27, was involved in multi-racer pileup that sent her over a guardrail, where she landed hard on her side and briefly lay motionless.
She was taken to a hospital and later shared an update on Instagram.
“Thanks for the many, many messages I received. Sure not the final I had imagined. I feel quite good, five ribs broken and microfracture on shoulder. Could be worse. Time to recover but no worries, I will come back.” -Debora Silvestri
Her team, Laboral Kutxa, said Silvestri was being monitored in the hospital and remained in good spirits following the crash.
