Another Lake Tahoe Ski Resort Will Debut Parking Reservations Next Season

New for next winter, Sierra-at-Tahoe, California, plans to implement parking reservations on holidays and weekends for skiers visiting its slopes, marking the addition of another ski resort with a traffic management system around Lake Tahoe, an often busy ski destination.

The system will be in place between December 19, 2026, and April 4, 2027.

The reservations, the ski resort noted, will be free for Sierra passholders and drivers with four or more people in their car (those with a child’s pass, Ikon Pass, or Powder Alliance pass won’t be able to make free reservations; Play Passes and Weekday Passes don’t get free reservations on days when their pass is blacked out).

For everyone else, they’ll cost $25, with some programs, like ski school, perhaps qualifying for a discount. Beyond 12 p.m., reservations won’t be required in Sierra-at-Tahoe’s lots.

Passholders will be able to make up to four reservations on days their pass is valid, for a total of four active reservations at a time. Once one of those reservations has been used, they’ll be able to make another. Missing multiple reservations might result in the loss of the ability to make free reservations for passholders.

In explaining the new system, Sierra-at-Tahoe used similar language as other resorts, touching on traffic and the carbon emissions created by the lines of cars that often stream into the mountains.

Sierra-at-Tahoe said it has received feedback from visitors and the local community about the impact of using first-come, first-served parking during crowded days.

“By requiring parking reservations, guests will have peace of mind that parking will be available before they leave their homes, while helping to reduce traffic impacts,” the resort said on a webpage about the reservations. “Additionally, Sierra hopes to help reduce carbon emissions by providing free reservations to guests with 4 or more people in their car.”

Sierra-at-Tahoe plans to share more information about the reservations in the fall of 2026. To read more about the new parking plan, click here.
