Britain Take First Medal of 2026 Winter Paralympics
Neil Simpson MBE, racing with guide Rob Poth, has delivered Great Britain’s first medal of the Milan‑Cortina Winter Paralympics after securing silver in the alpine combined, an event decided over a super‑G run followed by slalom.
The pair had been just outside the podium places after the morning speed leg, sitting fourth and 0.57 seconds off the medals. But a superbly controlled slalom – the quickest of the entire field – propelled them up two spots. Italy’s Giacomo Bertagnolli with guide Andrea Ravelli claimed gold, while Austria’s Johannes Aigner and Nico Haberl completed the podium in third.

For Simpson, the result marks an upgrade from the bronze he earned in Beijing four years ago. “I’m really chuffed with the performance. We put down some strong skiing in the second run and stuck to the plan,” said the 23‑year‑old.
It is the third Paralympic medal of his career and follows two agonising fourth‑place finishes earlier in these Games. Simpson made history at the previous Paralympics when he became the first British man to win Winter Paralympic gold, triumphing in the super‑G, guided by his brother Andrew, both later receiving MBEs.
