Miracle March: Two Feet of Snow Slams Utah Ski Resorts

Well, the storm pulled through.

At some ski resorts throughout Utah, multiple feet of powder have fallen over the past 24 hours. The epicenter, as is often the case, is the Cottonwoods, the canyons outside Salt Lake City, home to Alta Ski Area, Snowbird, Brighton, and Solitude.

Snowbird wasted no time showing off the goods. In an Instagram post from Friday morning, a skier nearly disappeared into the white room. We’re not jealous—you are.

As for totals, Snowbird is reporting 21 inches of the white stuff.

“It’s coming down this morning!” snow reporter Kelsey James wrote. “And unlike the snow we’ve seen much of this winter, this stuff is cold. Skiers and riders are in for a good ol’ fashioned Utah powder day.”

Just up the road, at Alta Ski Area, 25 inches fell over the past day for a 32-inch storm total.

The powder arrives amid an iffy, on-again, off-again ski season for Utah. There have been big dumps, but the story, overall, has involved waiting around for the snow to start falling again. The snowpack in basins across the state remains below the median, and Alta, which keeps close track of its snowfall history, is still trailing behind the 2024-25 season.

But right now, who cares? If anything, a bit of delayed gratification makes the payoff sweeter. Friday and Saturday are the days to get it. Then, spring-like conditions are expected to set in, with clear skies and warm weather.

Here’s how Utah’s ski resorts fared in the storm. Totals are 24-hour and pulled from ski resort snow reports, unless otherwise specified. Some totals may not have been updated to reflect current conditions.
