Denver’s Ski Hill Closes For The Season

Denver, Colorado — As we shared earlier this week, it’s been a historically warm winter for Denver. While Denver is known for its sunny weather, it can get cold enough for a small ski hill to operate. But with a lack of snow and cold temperatures, it was a difficult season for Ruby Hill.
Set up by the Denver Parks & Recreation and Winter Park Resort, Ruby Hill Rail Yard is an operation that typically relies on snowmaking to open and remain accessible. Focused mostly on terrain park skiers and riders, there are a range of jumps and rails.
The ski hill is typically open from January to March. This winter began later than usual, with an opening on February 1st. Operations were without lights this season, meaning that there was no night skiing. Unfortunately, the season didn’t last long due to the aforementioned warm weather. The season formally ended on March 3rd.
While this season sucked as much as Rocky Mountain Oysters, the rail yard could become more accessible in the years ahead. A fundraiser is underway to install a surface lift in the future. You can support those efforts here.
