Questions Over Paralympic Games after US/Israel Strike on Iran

The Paralympics are doe to open this Friday, March 6th and continue until Sunday 15th March

“We recognise that this situation impacts not only the National Paralympic Committees competing at the Games, but also our wider membership,” said IPC in a statement.

“Our first thoughts are with the people affected, and we stand in solidarity with them.”

The IPC confirmed it is evaluating the operational consequences of the crisis, particularly in relation to travel logistics.

It says it is maintaining a clear focus on delivering the best possible Games and ensuring the event continues to serve as a platform for advancing social inclusion for the world’s 1.3 billion people with disabilities.

“We remain in close contact with all delegations competing at the Games, as well as with other stakeholders”, the official communication stated.

Many teams are already in Europe for training camps and final preparations.

The closure of airspace across parts of the Middle East is disrupting the arrival of certain parties.

The IPC indicated that it would “prefer not to comment on the situation of individual delegations or stakeholders at this time.”

It stressed that it is working diligently alongside Milan-Cortina 2026 organisers to identify solutions for those affected.

Around 665 athletes from 50 nations expected to compete at the Paralympics.
