Another National Park Drops Reservation Requirements For 2026

Mount Rainier National Park.

Mount Rainier National Park in Washington has joined a growing list of U.S. National Parks that have dropped their reservation requirements for the 2026 season. According to the National Park Service, the park will instead rely on parking management strategies to maximize capacity and protect park resources.

“Mount Rainier National Park is dedicated to providing meaningful access to visitors while responsibly managing congestion during peak periods. We will continue using proven traffic and parking management strategies to support a safe and memorable experience for all.” – Superintendent Gregory Dudgeon

Those planning to visit the park in 2026 should visit the park’s official website for the most up to date information and identify an alternative location incase their preferred location is full. Additionally, the service encourages visitors to visit prior to 7am or after 4pm, as the park’s many hours of daylight can provide plenty of less congested trails and parking availability in the afternoon.

Weekday trips and lesser known trails for hiking and sightseeing are encouraged for avoiding crowds. Pets are not permitted on park trails and should be left at home. More information of visiting Rainier can be found on their official website.
