Team USA halfpipe skier Nick Goepper went for broke in the Finals at Livigno, but came up short on a never-been-done trick. Goepper knew if he landed a switch double misty 1260, that it would earn him Olympic Gold. Unfortunately, he crashed, but ended up walking away from the slam under his own power.
Goepper is already planning to ski at the French Alps 2030 Games, according to an Instagram post.
2. Mikaela’s Kiss

All eyes were on Mikaela Shiffrin as she dropped into the women’s slalom final in Cortina. Could the all-time-great skier shake the monkey of the 2022 Games and win Gold in her most dominant discipline? Yes, she could, and yes, she did.

Eileen Gu soared to a Gold medal in women’s Halfpipe and officially cemented herself as the most decorated Olympic freeskier of all time. Gu won Silver in Big Air and Slopestyle at Milan-Cortina as well. This image of her posing with all three medals is borderline iconic.

Nazgul, a local wolf/dog hybrid, stole the international spotlight by sprinting onto the course during the women’s team cross country free sprint qualification event. Good boy, Nazgul, good boy.
6. Italy Flying High

Italy’s Frecce Tricolori, similar to the United States’ Blue Angels, flies over Cortina after Federica Brignone of Team Italy won a gold medal in the Women’s Super G.
The Frecce Tricolori traditionally fly over the Gran Risa in nearby Alta Badia for the annual World Cup race hosted there.
7. Dual Moguls Deliver

Dual Moguls’ introduction to the Olympics delivered with excitement, sometimes out-of-control skiing, and plenty of crashes. Ikuma Horishima of Team Japan had the best moment of the competition when he crashed, popped back to his feet, and crossed the finish line backwards. Video clips of the moment have racked up millions of views.
8. Alex Ferreira Pole Twirls His Way To Olympic Gold

Team USA halfpipe skier Alex Ferreira had won bronze and silver in previous Winter Olympics. Entering Milan-Cortina, he had one goal: Gold.
Ferreira fought off a stacked field for his first Gold medal and celebrated with his signature overhead pole-twirl. Fans will recall that Ferreira has brought out the pole twirl after winning X Games and various World Cup events. Seeing it on the Olympic stage was quite the treat.
9. Jessie Diggins Leaves It All On the Snow

Jessie Diggins, the most-decorated American cross-country skier in history, didn’t have the best Milan-Cortina Winter Olympics in terms of medals won, but she sure left it all on the snow. Battling a rib injury sustained early in the Games, Diggins fought hard for Bronze in the Women’s 10km Interval Start Free and collapsed at the finish line.
This will be Diggins’s last Olympics. We will certainly miss seeing her rep the Stars and Stripes. Thanks for everything, Jessie!

Breezy Johnson broke down in tears after winning the Gold in Women’s Downhill. As the newly-crowned fastest woman on skis, the emotions poured out as the National Anthem played in Cortina. Breezy was later proposed to, and accepted, cementing a memorable Games for the Downhiller from Jackson Hole. Go Breezy, go!
