Skier Triggered Avalanche Barrels Under Active Chairlift in France

Inbounds avalanche @ Tignes-Val d’Isère

While riding chairlifts can be fear inducing for anyone suffering from even minor acrophobia, even a seasoned skier might have their anxiety triggered if put in a similar situation as this British International Ski Teacher who was riding a high-speed, 4-person chairlift in France when a skier triggered avalanche came barreling under her chair.

The footage was captured on February 13th on The Tufs Chairlift at Tignes-Val d’Isère Ski Area which is a key lift proving fast access from the base to the high-altitude slopes.

“Watching the power of an avalanche go right under my skis but from the safety of the chairlift was a surreal experience. Everyone was ok and it was on a closed piste, but it’s a good reminder to respect the mountain and be aware of your surroundings.” -Victoria Collins

“It doesn’t matter if you have made thousands of good calls – all it takes is one bad call and that is one too many. Some days the mountains are screaming GET OUT OF HERE and some days they are saying come on in – it’s time to party.” – Jeremy Jones
