Utah Resort Opens Record Amount of Terrain During Huge Powder Snowfall
Utah’s Deer Valley Resort, which has been undergoing one of the biggest ski area expansions in history over the past few seasons, has now opened more terrain than ever before.
“Today, 27 chairlifts and 128 ski runs are scheduled to open, the most in our history. This doesn’t happen by accident. Massive thanks to our Mountain Operations team whose nonstop hard work made this moment possible,” a spokesperson for the centre which is adjacent to Park City said this week.
The record setting terrain opening came just as one of the biggest snowstorms of the season to date blew in, depositing nearly two feet (60cm) of snowfall over the past 48 hours. Deer Valley most recently reported its now up to 165 runs open.

Deer Valley’s expansion includes a major investment in snowmaking. A newly expanded, fully automated system has enabled the mountain to preserve consistent coverage and even open record amounts of terrain during an otherwise dry early season. The network now includes four automated pumphouses capable of delivering up to 15,000 gallons of water and 32,000 cubic feet of compressed air per minute, operating with minimal hands‑on oversight.
For skiers who know the mountain well, the scale of the upgrade is striking, not just for its size, but for how naturally the new terrain blends into the existing layout. Deer Valley now spans 4,300 acres, placing it among the largest ski areas in North America and globally. The resort offers 202 runs served by 31 lifts, with 100 trails and 10 lifts added since December 2024. A further seven chairlifts have come online for this winter, continuing to reshape how guests move across the mountain.
