Vail Finally Hit The 100 Inch Snowfall Milestone This Week

The story of winter in the Rockies this year has been one of patience. As of February 18, 2026, Vail Mountain has finally crossed a major physical threshold for snowfall this season.
Thanks to a well-timed 7-inch snow refresh that fell leading into Wednesday morning, Vail has finally eclipsed the 100-inch cumulative snowfall mark, currently sitting at 110 inches for the year as of February 19th. According to Vail Daily’s On The Hill host John LaConte, Vail hit that same milestone during the first week of December last season.
Low visibility on February 18th pushed LaConte into the trees despite early season hazards like exposed stems that take out ski and snowboard edges. Wednesday’s fresh snow was apparently skied out pretty hard by 9:30am.
John specifically discussed the crowds that can arrive when a good day finally hits during a lean year like this one, with the “pre-commitment” ski pass model creating even more of a desire to get out on the big days.
The Back Bowls, supplied by Chair 9 (Sun Up Express), have been opened and closed throughout this week, with high winds stripping the snow and leaving the conditions spotty. That said, the storm is still going in Colorado, and more weather is expected throughout the coming days, so make sure to check the Vail website for the most up-to-date information on trails and lifts.
