Skier Death Confirmed at Northstar, Second In Two Weeks

The Placer County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that 53-year-old Stuart McLaughlin of Hillsborough, California, died in a ski accident at Northstar Ski Resort on Sunday, February 15, 2026.

Northstar officials have stated that McLaughlin was involved in a collision with another skier on the Polaris trail, a Black Diamond-rated slope on the resort’s ‘Backside’ terrain.

The accident marks the second death in two weeks at the resort. 26-year-old skier Nicholas Kenworthy of Los Angeles died in an accident on the ‘Martis Trail’ on Friday, February 6, 2026.

A monster winter storm has dumped more than three feet of snow at Northstar since the accident occurred.
