Tragic news out of Canada where A 13-year-old girl who was critically injured after her clothing got tangled in a chairlift at a ski area in Quebec has died.

According to CBC, a statement was released by Ottawa children’s hospital CHEO in which the family confirmed the girl’s death, stating that they were devastated to share the news.

“We would like to thank our community for their support and the outpouring of love we have received over the last few days. We would like to extend our love to all of those affected by this terrible tragedy.”

The girl was skiing at Centre Vorlage near Wakefield, Quebec, on a class trip on February 11th when she became tangled in the machinery right as she was about to dismount the chairlift at the top of the hill. Adults tried to free her, but ultimately decided the best way to get her off the chair was to bring it back to the bottom of the hill.

By the time she reached the bottom, she was not breathing. First responders were waiting with two doctors who happened to be on the slopes that day, performing CPR before the girl was rushed to a hospital in Wakefield. Eventually she was transferred to CHEO.

Our thoughts and condolences are with the friends and family of the deceased at this time.
