Bankes & Nightingale Win Britain’s First Olympic Gold In Snowsports

Great Britain carved out a landmark moment in Livigno, claiming its first Olympic snow‑sport title after a 102 year wait as Charlotte Bankes and Huw Nightingale powered to victory in the Mixed Team Snowboard Cross at the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Games.

Nightingale handed over in second place, just 0.14 seconds behind France 2, before Bankes delivered a masterclass in race craft. Although France’s Lea Casta burst away early, Bankes threaded an inside line to take control and never looked back.

Italy 1 secured silver thanks to a superb fightback from Michela Moioli, who erased a 0.66‑second deficit to overhaul France 2. Casta and Loan Bozzolo claimed bronze for France.

For Bankes, the triumph was a powerful response after her disappointment in the individual event, where she exited in the quarterfinals.

“I’m happy with my riding all day. I found it again, which I’ve been struggling with for the last week here. At last, I found some speed and made it count,” she said, highlighting the precision and decision‑making that carried her to gold.

The win adds Olympic glory to the world title the pair captured in 2023.
