Popular French Ski Area Closes Due To Extreme Avalanche Danger

La Plange ski resort in France.

La Plagne, one of the most popular ski areas in France, is officially closed on Thursday, February 12th, as heavy snowfall has significantly increased the avalanche danger.

According to the La Plagne website, the avalanche danger is currently at a 5 out of 5, with just under a foot of snow having fallen on February 11th. The snow is expected to continue into Thursday, with heavy snow anticipated throughout the day.

La Plagne is among the largest ski areas in France, combining with Les Arcs and Peisey Vallandry to form the Paradiski complex. La Plagne itself features 11 villages spread across the resort, some better for families, others better for the night life.

There’s no clear indication as to when the resort will be able to reopen, whether it’ll be on Friday or later. In the meantime, visitors should understand that this closure is serious.
