Shredding Backcountry Lines Just 20 Minutes From Downtown Boston

Boston backcountry snowboarding.

The snow is still holding strong in New England, and surprisingly that extends as far south as Boston. Boston shredder Adam Bass went out just this past Sunday to hit snowboard some backcountry runs at Blue Hills Reservation, just around 20 minutes outside of Boston (when there’s no traffic).

Blue Hills Reservation is actually home to the Blue Hills Ski Area, so it is possible to get some lift-powered turns in without heading too far outside of the city. That said, there’s something pretty wild about the claim of backcountry skiing 20 minutes outside of Boston.

Blue Hills Reservation stretches over 7,000 acres from Quincy to Dedham and Milton to Randolph, with Great Blue Hill, the highest in the Blue Hills chain, reaching 635 feet in altitude. Over 125 miles of trails fill the area, so there’s plenty of recreation to be had.
