How The Cult of POWDER Magazine Started—Founder Jake Moe on New Podcast
Professional skier, accomplished trail runner, mental health advocate, and talented filmmaker Drew Petersen has started a new endeavor—a podcast.
Dubbed the Drew Petersen Podcast, the show centers around chairlift conversations with some of the biggest names in skiing.
The show launched yesterday, February 3, 2026, with three episodes: Angel Collinson, Caroline Gleich, and POWDER Magazine co-founder Dave Moe. You can watch or listen to all three episodes on Petersen’s YouTube channel, on Spotify, or right here in this article below.
Our favorite episode at launch, which is obviously heavily biased, is Petersen’s conversation with Moe on a chairlift at Sun Valley, Idaho, the very resort where POWDER was founded in 1972.

Drew Petersen Podcast: Jake Moe
Drew Petersen: “In the winter of 1972/73, POWDER Magazine was founded by Jake and Dave Moe. In the decades since, POWDER became the Bible of skiing, defining the culture and helping shape the track of the sport. Fortunately for us, Jake also just happens to be one of the most passionate skiers I have ever met.
This episode felt like the right fit to kick off the podcast. First, Jake is hilarious and so joyful. In a broad sense, this episode feels reflective of my relationship with the sport of skiing, media, and my professional career. I idolized Powder Magazine as a kid, interned in the office a decade ago, and now, here I am, starting this podcast as a continued exploration of storytelling. So of course, I had to interview the Founder of POWDER himself.”
