Documentary Unveils Realities of Elite Freestyle Skiing

With The Olympics just around the corner, Peak Performance has unveiled a new three-part YouTube documentary series, Reaching For The Peak, which offers an inside look at the realities of elite freestyle skiing.

Directed by Morgan Tien, with cinematography by Tien and Jared Putnam, the series follows five athletes across slopestyle, halfpipe and moguls during what is billed as the most demanding season of their careers.

Filmed from early‑season glacier camps in Austria and Finland through to the pressure-cooker atmosphere of the World Cup circuit, the project aims to move beyond the usual highlight reels. Instead, it focuses on the unseen graft behind the sport: the repetition, the risk, the mental strain and the split-second decisions that shape an athlete’s trajectory. The result is an unfiltered portrait of progression at the highest level, capturing both the exhilaration and the vulnerability that come with pushing the limits of modern freeskiing.

Episode One centres on halfpipe skiers Svea Irving and Hunter Hess, both established competitors with X Games pedigree and a reputation for performing under pressure.

Episode Two shifts to slopestyle and big air, following Glasgow-born Chris McCormick and Finnish standout Anni Kärävä—who made history in 2025 as the first Finnish woman to podium in X Games Big Air.

The final episode, just released, spotlights Canadian moguls skier Maïa Schwinghammer, fresh from a breakout season that included her first World Cup win and a World Championships bronze.
