Andorra Hosting First Freeride World Championships This Week

It’s been confirmed that the inaugural FIS Freeride World Championships will take place this Tuesday, 3 February, in Andorra, marking a major new chapter for the sport.

Sixty‑five athletes from 17 nations are set to drop into the renowned Basser Negre face at Ordino Arcalís, which returns to top‑level freeride competition for the first time since 2018.

Recent storms have delivered up to 150 cm of fresh snow, setting up ideal conditions on the 2,687 m venue. With a vertical drop of 470 meters, a northeast orientation, and an average slope angle of 36° (reaching a maximum of 47°), Basser Negre is perfectly suited for elite-level freeride competition.
