Bormio Welcomes Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Torch Relay

Bormio will welcome the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Torch Relay on Saturday 31 January, as the Flame passes through the historic Alpine town just days before the Winter Games get underway.

As an official host venue for men’s alpine skiing and ski mountaineering, Bormio will play a key role during Stage 55 of the relay, which is carrying the Olympic Flame across Italy in the build-up to the Games. The stop in Alta Valtellina comes ahead of the Olympic debut on the legendary Stelvio slope, where the men’s downhill is due to take place on 7 February.

The day begins at 1:30pm on the Stelvio with the symbolic “Up&Down” relay, featuring young local athletes from both alpine skiing and ski mountaineering. It’s designed to shine a light on the next generation and the values at the heart of the Olympics. For safety reasons, this part of the event will take place behind closed doors at the Ski Stadium.

From 2:00pm, the Flame will move into Bormio’s town centre, with the relay open to the public. Residents and visitors will be able to line the streets as torchbearers carry the Torch through the historic heart of the resort, celebrating Bormio’s long-standing link to winter sport and its role in Milano Cortina 2026.

There will also be a wider programme of activities running from 1:00pm to 5:00pm, including readings, flash mobs and community events, bringing different generations together in a shared celebration of sport, local pride and Olympic spirit.

After Bormio, the Torch will continue on to Valdisotto (3:30pm) before travelling to Tirano and Sondrio, where the stage is set to finish at 7:30pm.

The Torch Relay is another major moment in Bormio’s countdown to hosting Olympic competition on one of alpine skiing’s most famous slopes.
