Grand Canyon National Park Plans Adaptive Reopening Of The North Rim Following The Dragon Bravo Fire

North Rim of the Grand Canyon.

After significant destruction to portions of the North Rim in Grand Canyon National Park this summer due to the Dragon Bravo Fire, the National Park Service is finally preparing for an adaptive approach to the seasonal reopening of the North Rim.

According to the National Park Service, popular points of interest, including the North Kaibab Trail, are currently set to reopen on May 15th if weather and conditions permit. The upcoming season will work under a principle of opening whatever the park can whenever they can, prioritizing visitor safety, resource protection, and operational readiness.

Park officials are aware of the difficulty surrounding the reopening and are committed to providing specific details about the 2026 North Rim season by April 1st, 2026. The North Kaibab Trail and portions of the Arizoina Trail usually remain open year-round, but snow, ice, fire-related damage, and necessary infrastructure repairs have forced the closure of both, whether partially or entirely.

“Our goal is to provide access to the North Rim as quickly and responsibly as possible with an emphasis on safety. We are committed to keeping the public and our partners informed as we learn more about the impacts of winter weather and the Dragon Bravo Fire.” – Superintendent Ed Keable.

Visitors should head to the Grand Canyon National Park website and follow the park on social media for further updates.
