5-Star Hotel At French Ski Resort Burns, 260 Evacuated

A fire broke out at a luxury 5-star hotel at CourchevelĀ Ski ResortĀ in France at approximately 7:00pm Tuesday night forcing the evacuation of approximately 300 guests and staff. France24 reports no one was ‍injured in the blaze.

According to a press release from the Prefecture of Savoie, the fire began in the attic of the Hotel des Grandes Alpes around 7pm local time on Tuesday, continuing to burn late into Wednesday morning.

131Ā firefighters were deployed to battle the blaze which continued to smolder and smoke late into the following morning. The firefighters successfully prevented theĀ fireĀ from spreading to surrounding buildings.

Over 90 people were evacuated from the hotel and the RƩsidence des Grandes Alpes and rehoused Tuesday evening. Wednesday morning saw the evacuation of nearly 200 people including guests and staff from the nearby HƓtel Le Lena. The municipality opened a reception hall to accommodate them.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is underway. Safety measures are under extreme scrutiny in the region after a deadly fire in a ‍bar in the Swiss resort of Crans-Montana on New Year’s Eve killed 40 ā€Œpeople and ​injured more than 100.
