PlanetSKI Gear Review #4 Winter 2025/26
HELLY HANSEN SWIFT HT 2.0 GLOVES £70 – www.hellyhansen.com
Helly’s Swift HT gloves offer a simple, no-nonsense design that nevertheless provides reliable waterproof and breathable protection and warmth.
They’re designed to work in extremely wet conditions which makes them versatile enough to use both on the ski slopes and also on Britain’s soggy hills.
Features include adjustable cuffs, a hard-wearing nylon face fabric along with leather palms and a snug 3M Thinsulate lining.
VERDICT: Simple, durable gloves that cope well with both wet and cold conditions.

TIERRA ROC BLANC PRO GEN 4 HARDSHELL JACKET £480 – www.trekitt.co.uk
Manufactured by Swedish brand Tierra, the Roc Blanc is a rugged hardshell that makes an ideal option if you give your kit a lot of use and a lot of wear.
It features innovative, eco-friendly Gore-Tex ePE Proshell, a PFC-free DWR lightweight fabric which provides optimum waterproof and breathable performance with a lesser environmental impact.
The jacket’s loose fit offers great freedom of movement and easy layering, and the generously-sized hood is fully-adjustable and helmet compatible, below which a high, micro-fleece lined collar provides good protection from the elements.
Two large chest pockets provide heaps of storage space and there’s an internal zippered security pocket in the right-hand pocket and a lift pass pocket inside the left, along with an internal stash pocket.
Its large ventilation zips allow you to regulate your temperature on long climbs or warm days.
The jacket also comes with a Recco reflector.
I’d be happy to use the Roc Blanc year-round in the mountains for everything from mountaineering and hiking to skiing and ski touring, making for a very versatile jacket.
VERDICT: A rugged, good-looking minimalist hard shell that should withstand many seasons of hard use.

SALOMON S/VIEW 3 ML £80 – www.salomon.com
The unfussy, minimalist look of Salomon’s revamped S/View 3 ML is quite appealing, as is the price, whilst the Multilayer lens (hence the ‘ML’ in the name) and wide frame provide a pleasingly broad field of vision at the same time as minimising glare.
There are various lens and frame colours available in the range – our sample came with a black cat 3 lens designed for sunny conditions (visible light transmission is 12 per cent) which has quite a ‘stealth’ look about it.
Triple layer face foam provides a lovely soft feel against the skin and Salomon’s well-established ‘Airflow’ system helps prevent fogging.
Its easily-adjustable, silicone-backed strap provides a secure fit whether you’re wearing a helmet or beanie.
VERDICT: Cool, minimalist goggles at a reasonable price

H&M MOVE SKI JACKET £179.99 – www.hm.com
If you’re looking for budget ski gear, you’ll be hard pushed to beat the kit that H&M is offering this season.
Their Move ski jacket is constructed from a breathable, waterproof and windproof fabric with taped seams and has insulated padding for warmth along with most of the features recreational skiers are likely to want.
These include an adjustable, helmet-compatible hood, high anti-chafe chinguard, sleeves with both an adjustable cuff and wrist gaiters, pit zips, zippered chest, handwarmer and lift pass pockets plus a zippered internal security pocket and large internal stash pocket with goggle wipe, pit zips, Recco reflector and a powder skirt.
The jacket also looks and feels good, making for a fantastic value bit of gear.
VERDICT: All the features most skiers will need in an insulated jacket, and at a bargain price.

H&M MOVE BIB PANTS £169.99 – www.hm.com
As with the Move jacket, H&M’s Move bib pants offer excellent value and a whole stash of essential features at the same time as looking good.
The pants’ StormMove fabric is wind- and waterproof as well as being breathable.
The regular fit provides a warm, comfortable wear; the bib further helps with insulation, and has wide, elasticated and easily adjustable braces, plus a zippered chest pocket; and just in case the braces aren’t enough for you, there are also wide belt loops and a Velcro adjustable waist so these pants ain’t gonna be falling down in a hilarious ‘Carry On’ type way…
Other essential features include zippered handwarmer pockets, a zippered cargo pocket, zippered ventilation panels on the inside of the legs, integrated snow gaiters at the hems and a decent sized scuff panel, plus a Recco reflector.
VERDICT: Another great value, well-designed piece of kit that should appeal to anyone on a budget.

TOG24 AVORIAZ JACKET £200 – www.tog24.com
If you’re after an insulated ski jacket with a good range of features that won’t break the bank the Tog24 Avoriaz is worth a look.
It’s constructed from 20K waterproof and 20K breathable fabric with a DWR finish and has fully taped seams.
There’s a quilted lining to keep you warm (note that this makes the jacket a bit bulky if layering up underneath it, so you may need to think about going up a size).
The Avoriaz also has adjustable hood with a fused peak, two chest zip pockets (one with goggle wipe), two lower zip handwarmer pockets, and a dedicated sleeve pocket for your lift pass, plus an internal mesh stow pocket, whilst glove-friendly cuff and hem adjusters and a fixed powder skirt help keep the snow on the outside.
VERDICT: A warm and weatherproof jacket aimed at resort skiers looking for value for money

TOG24 CLUSAZ SALOPETTES £120 – www.tog24.com
Another bit of kit from Tog24 that will appeal to less demanding skiers looking for good value, the Clusaz salopettes feature 10K waterproof, 10K breathable and windproof fabric with a DWR coating and fully taped seams.
Insulated inners provide a snug feel, and tricot panelling on the lining provides extra cushioning on landing areas like your bum and knees for the inevitable tumbles.
A combination of adjustable and detachable stretch braces, Velcro waist adjusters and wide belt loops keep everything in place.
The whole lot is rounded off with two zippered handwarmer pockets, zip vent openings on the hem, internal snow gaiters and decent sized scuff guards.
VERDICT: Good value, well-insulated ski salopettes.

H&M MOVE GOGGLES £74.99 – www.hm.com
If you’re looking for one pair of goggles for all conditions, and at a price that won’t break the bank, this is an option worth checking out.
The frameless design comes with two lenses, one black/silver for bright sunshine and a second orange lens for bad light.
They can be changed in an instant, even with gloved hands, thanks to an eight-magnet attachment system built into the frame.
The whole lot is rounded off with a silicone-backed, adjustable strap, sturdy zippered case and a soft carry bag that doubles as a lens cleaner.
VERDICT: No-nonsense, versatile and good value ski goggles.
