Travel agencies and ski holiday tour operators are both reporting a surge in bookings as snow falls in both the UK and in the Alps, the latter reporting up to 1.3m (over four feet) of snowfall on higher slopes in the past 48 hours.

“Snowfall in many parts of the UK at the start of 2026 and now in the Alps has spurred a flurry of skiers to head for the Alps,” says Ski Beat‘s Laura Hazell, “Bookings for ski chalet holidays to our high-altitude French resorts, picked up momentum in early January as snow fell over many parts of England and Scotland, with skiers hankering after the real deal. It’s already a strong season with a lot of guests returning to the slopes for the first time for some years, and availability for February half term and the adjacent weeks at a premium.”

The year has also started well for snow0holiday travel agency Iglu, who report a 100% increase in skiers booking for immediate departure, compared to the same time last year. They consider ‘last-minute’ as booking to travel within 7 days.

Along with the fresh snowfall, Iglu’s say that their January sale is driving demand.

“It’s been a really busy start to 2026, with double the number of last-minute bookings compared to the same time last year. We know that everyone is watching webcams closely, and those fed up with returning to work are choosing instead to head straight to the mountains,” said Philip Wright, Iglu Ski’s Head of Sales and Service.

For those who can’t get away last minute, Ski Beat urges skiers to also consider spring skiing in March and April when slopes are quieter, daylight hours longer, lift queues shorter, prices keener and the weather kinder.

“As snow continues to fall in the Alps to create a solid base this season, I for one will be spending time in the mountains in April and look forward to blue-bird skiing and great, late snow conditions,” Laura adds.
