Ceremonies To Honour Victims of Crans Montana Fire

A number of ceremonies and events to honour the victims of the New Year’s Day fire in Crans Montana will be staged today.

The National Victim Honouring Ceremony will be staged in Martigny this afternoon and  streamed live in Crans-Montana to allow people to gather together at the Regent Congress Centre (where all space has now been reserved) and on the Place du Scandia where there will be several giant screens erected to broadcast the ceremony. There’s free access and no reservation is required. The event will begin at 1:45 pm.

The ceremony will also be broadcast live by many television channels, including the three Swiss national channels, allowing everyone to gather, wherever they are.

A ceremony will also be held at Verbier Station Church at 2pm today, the ceremony beginning with the ringing of bells (which will also happen at churches across Switzerland at the same time) and will be followed at 2.30pm with a reception in the parish hall.

Verbier and Zermatt’s lift companies, among others, say they will also stop the lifts for one minute at 2pm today in a sign of solidarity with Crans Montana.
