Beloved BC Heli Ski Operation Purchased By American Company 'Heli'

Stellar Heliskiing, based in Kaslo, British Columbia, announced today, January 8, 2026, that it has been acquired by adventure travel company Heli, which has acquired several backcountry outfits in recent years.

The Kaslo operation was started in 2005 by Jason Remple and Kerry Luckey, a couple. Its tenure spans 125,000 acres of terrain across the famed Selkirk and Purcell Mountains, where, each season, 60 feet of snow falls on average. Four years ago, Stellar Heliskiing bought the Kaslo Hotel, which serves as Stellar’s lodge and is also home to the Waypoint Restaurant and Bar.

“Our decision to sell wasn’t an easy decision, Stellar Heliskiing has always been about more than just incredible powder—it’s about the people, the experience, and our deep connection to this terrain and our community,” said Luckey, in a press release.

“Finding a buyer who truly understands what makes our operation special was essential. I’m confident they’ll honor our legacy while ensuring our team, our guests, and our values remain at the heart of everything Stellar does as they take the operation to new heights,” she added.

Luckey’s partner and co-owner of Stellar Heli, Jason Remple, tragically passed away in an avalanche that claimed three lives in March of 2025.

Under the terms of the purchase, Stellar Heliskiing and the Kaslo Hotel’s operational teams, crews, and guest-facing staff are expected to remain in place, according to the press release.

All upcoming bookings, itineraries, and programs scheduled will go ahead as planned, and Stellar Heliskiing will continue to operate out of Kaslo.

Stefan Engström, who joined Stellar Heliskiing as a partner in 2013, called the search for a new owner a “very carefully curated process.”

“Stellar isn’t just a business—it’s a family of guides, staff, and guests who have trusted us with their safety, their adventures, and their dreams of pristine powder,” he continued. “We also owe so much to the local communities and supporters who have believed in us from the beginning. Every one of these relationships mattered as we considered who should carry Stellar forward.”

The purchase expands Heli’s foothold as an owner of backcountry skiing operators. Alongside running its adventure travel marketplace business, the company has become the owner of several storied outfits, including Colorado’s Silverton Mountain and Mustang Powder in British Columbia

“We are honored to continue building on Stellar’s legacy,” said Andy Culp, Heli’s CEO. “This acquisition allows us to support the company’s passionate team, invest in the community of Kaslo, and elevate the guest experience while maintaining the intimate, high-quality approach  that has made Stellar so respected in the industry.”

After taking the reins of Mustang Powder and Silverton Mountain, Heli’s leaders said they were committed to preserving what made the businesses special.

“We always come in with preservation and legacy in mind,” Heli’s president, Brock Strasbourger, told POWDER following the acquisition of Mustang Powder last year.
