Final Storm System Brings Up To A Foot Of Snowfall To Colorado & Utah Before Dry Pattern Sets In

Chris Tomer snowfall forecast.

Colorado and Utah ski resorts are experiencing a welcome powder day with one final storm system bringing significant snowfall before a prolonged dry period settles over the region.

Recent Snowfall Totals

Meteorologist Chris Tomer reports that Colorado resorts received much-needed snowfall following a bone-dry stretch. Aspen Snowmass recorded 10 to 12 inches of new snow, while Loveland on the Front Range high peaks saw 8 inches. Across the entire I-70 corridor, resorts reported between 8 to 12 inches of accumulation.

Utah also benefited from the storm cycle, with Alta receiving an impressive 25 inches over a 36-hour period ending January 3rd, bringing their base from 90 inches to 115 inches.

Upcoming Storm Forecast

One final storm system is tracking across the inner mountain west between now and January 9th. The key snow days for Utah, Wyoming, and Colorado are January 7th, 8th, and 9th as the system pivots south.

Through January 9th, Tomer forecasts 8 to 12 inches for Alta, Snowbird, Solitude, and Brighton, with lighter totals of 5 to 8 inches at Park City and Deer Valley. Colorado’s western slope resorts including Aspen and Snowmass should see better accumulations, while Loveland could receive moderate snow on January 8th.

After this storm clears, a large high-pressure dome will bring warm, dry conditions from January 10th through 15th. The pattern may flip back to cold and snow around January 17th.
