Crans-Montana Tragedy
Ski areas across Switzerland and the Alps have been cancelling planned events out of respect for the victims of the Crans-Montana tragedy in the early hours of New Year’s Day.
With medical services in the region reported to be fully stretched, many resorts are also asking skiers and riders on their slopes to exercise additional caution to avoid needing medical services.
“In light of the exceptional situation currently experiencing area hospitals, following the tragedy in Crans-Montana, we urge all of our clients to exercise particularly caution throughout the field. This measure aims to limit as much as possible the occurrence of injuries and accidents. Our thoughts are with the victims and their loved ones,” a statement from Verbier, issued on Friday morning, reads.
The team at InTheSnow have partnered with Crans-Montana for many years, visiting this beautiful destination many times for more than three decades, with our editor visiting most recently just before Christmas. No words can convey the awfulness of this tragedy but we wish to send our heart felt condolences to everyone in Crans-Montana, including the teams working around the clock to do all they can in this devastating situation, along with the victims and their loved ones.
