Community Show Up To Protest Canadian Ski Resort’s Operations

Quebec — While Mont-Sainte-Anne weathered quite the storm over the past week, many are still unhappy with the ski resort’s operator.

Last Saturday, a large demonstration was held next to the Quebec ski resort. According to CTV News, the protestors called for a change in operator. Frankly, I wouldn’t have shared this news if it were a small protest, but it’s clear that many showed up to state their frustration with Resorts of the Canadian Rockies (RCR). This is the second protest held at the ski resort this year, with the first one in March drawing around a thousand not-smiling, unhappy people.

“We can feel the lack of investment every day,” said Lucas Gonthier, one of the organizers of the protest. “We’re here to say that we’ve had enough of RCR and they’ve shown in the past that they weren’t a good operator for this beloved resort.”

While Mont-Sainte-Anne is open for the season, problems persist for Resorts of the Canadian Rockies. They’ll need to submit a comprehensive plan to Quebec to secure a $50 million CAD loan for capital projects. However, the province’s confidence in the ski resort operator has diminished.

Telluride Ski Patrollers Planning To Begin Strike This Weekend

At least two parties are interested in acquiring the ski resort. There’s the Quebec Mountain Ski Company, which has grown into a portfolio of well-run ski resorts in the province. There’s also interest from Le Massif. However, there is potential for a strike at Le Massif next month if no deal is reached with unionized workers, which could serve as a distraction for ownership. Meanwhile, it was announced last week that the province will now run the east side of Mont Sainte Anne, which includes the cross-country trail network.
