Black Mountain, an Affordable Hidden Gem, Shows Off New Ski Trail Map
New year, new me.
Black Mountain, a small ski area in Maine, is showing off a new trail map created by volunteers who poured “countless hours” into the project.
In a social media post, the ski area thanked Nicole Carey for her mapping skills, alongside fellow contributors Keith Killian, Jeff Marcoux, and Lee McKay.

Black Mountain of Maine
The map shows off Black Mountain’s humble slopes. The ski area spans 600 acres and a small collection of chairlifts servicing glades and groomers.
One major draw of the mountain is affordability.
Like other smaller hills across the Northeast, its tickets and passes are cheap. On a Saturday or holiday, you’ll pay $65 to ski there. Thursday and Friday tickets cost even less, thanks to a discount deal sponsored by none other than L.L Bean—you couldn’t find a more Northeast ticket special if you tried.
Not to be confused with the ski area of the same name in New Hampshire, Black Mountain is also a member of the Indy Pass.
You may have heard of Black Mountain already. Why? It’s home to Last Skier Standing, a famed and intense endurance event. The skier who can tour up and slide back down the mountain the most times wins. That’s scheduled for the weekend of February 6, 2026.
So far this season, Black Mountain hasn’t benefitted from the same outrageous powder totals as nearby Vermont. Rain is in the forecast, but the ski area is looking on the bright side.
“We’ll gain a full snowmaking pond, which means as soon as temps drop on Sunday night, Mountain Ops will be back at it. The plan? Patch up anything that Mother Nature erases,” Black Mountain wrote in a recent snow report.
The ski area hopes to open on December 26, and it reminded skiers that uphill travel is closed until further notice. When skiers unfamiliar with the local digs arrive, they’ll now have a spiffy new trail map to help them get around.
