British Columbia and Alberta Ski Resorts Are Blanketed by Snow, Again
British Columbia and Alberta are racking up big snow totals, while parts of the Western US are just starting to spin lifts in the next two weeks.
Last week, much of interior BC got walloped by snow right in time for resorts like Kicking Horse, SilverStar, and Whitewater to open for the season. Over the weekend and beginning of this week, the border of Alberta and BC got even more snow. Lake Louise, Banff Sunshine, and parts of BC have been beneficiaries.
The Purcells and surrounding area have seen more than a foot of snow overnight. Resorts like Fernie, Revelstoke, and Kicking Horse have even more on the way. Coastal BC is finally getting its fair share of winter as well, with Whistler picking up a few inches overnight.
Going into the weekend and the upcoming holiday week, Whistler is expected to see pretty wild amounts of snow (76″ (193cm) forecasted between Christmas and New Year’s!), as are many parts of the American Pacific Northwest, particularly in Washington.
Here are a few of the resorts that benefited most from the last storm. Take note, and grab your powder skis!

Fernie Alpine Resort, British Columbia
Fernie takes the cake for the highest snow totals in British Columbia over the last 24 hours.
Between Tuesday and Wednesday morning, Fernie racked up an impressive 15″ (37cm) of snow, and there’s more on the way. This last storm brought Fernie’s snow totals to 321cm (126 in) this season, and the ski area is rocking an impressive 123cm (48 in) base.
Fernie has 17 more inches (43cm) of snow forecasted to fall over the next five days, and even more in the longer range forecast. Yeehaw, get your snorkels out!
Banff Sunshine, Alberta
Banff Sunshine has had an epic early season and it just keeps getting better and better.
Storms over the last two weeks dropped around 4 feet (121cm) of snow. The goods just keep getting better, because another 7″ (18cm) fell on Banff Sunshine overnight and there’s about 14″ (35cm) more inches on the way. Goat’s Eye Mountain opened three days ago, allowing Sunshine Village skiers to enjoy some of the ski area’s best terrain in a whole lot of fresh snow (Dive laps, anyone? We miss you, Banff!).
Lake Louise, Alberta
Just around the corner from Banff Sunshine, Lake Louise has also been getting absolutely hammered by snow this year, and just in time to debut more than 200 acres of new terrain.
Lake Louise got 7″ of snow in the last 24 hours to top off more than 60″ (152cm) over the last two weeks. The ski area is also only 5cm away from breaking their December snowfall record for this decade, and 40cm away from breaking their 10-year YTD snow record. The cherry on top? Banff Sunshine’s new lift, Richardson’s Ridge Express, opens on Wednesday, December 17, 2025.
Revelstoke, British Columbia
Somebody go check on Gnormie, because according to Revelstoke’s webcams, he’s fully buried! Revelstoke got 13″ (34cm) of snow in the last 24 hours and 86cm (33 in) over the last week. Warmer temperatures over the next couple of days might bring a little more ‘wintry mix’ to the area, but the faucet isn’t expected to turn off just yet. Revelstoke skiers are in for a few more deep days. Hope your legs are ready!
Panorama, British Columbia
Panorama also cleaned up, with 11″ (25cm) of snow falling top to bottom as of Wednesday morning. Over the last two days, Panorama saw a total of 41cm (16 in) of snow and should welcome another 11″ (28cm) over the next five days. The resort opened Taynton Bowl just a few days ago and is relishing all that the Atmospheric River has delivered with 100% of their lifts open.
Kicking Horse, British Columbia
Kicking Horse saw 10″ (25cm) of snow in the last 24 hours, in addition to the storm last week that dropped around 60″ (152cm) of snow on the mountain over the last two weeks. It’s free refills on December 17th, with snow still falling on the BC resort and another 15″ (38cm) of snow expected over the next five days.
Whitewater Mountain Resort, British Columbia
Whitewater saw similar snowfall totals to Kicking Horse in this last storm, with 10″ (33cm) falling in the last 24 hours, and 45cm in the last three days. The ski area has already seen 354cm (193 in) of snowfall in total this season. As of Wednesday, December 17, Whitewater had Raven Chair open for folks to start enjoying all that snow, but a power outage has all other lifts on hold. The resort has promised to keep skiers updated, and there’s another 24″ (60cm) in the forecast over the next five days!
Whistler Blackcomb, British Columbia
Whistler hasn’t had quite as fruitful a start to the season as other ski areas in British Columbia that are closer to the interior, but that’s about to change.
With the Atmospheric River ready to do some work on the Pacific Northwest (and hopefully not more destruction), Whistler saw 9″ (22cm) of snow overnight. Rest those legs and tune up your powder skis though, Whistler is forecasting 37″ of snow over the next five days, another 36″ (91cm) between December 22 and 25, and 75 more inches (190cm) of snow between Christmas and New Years.
