Avalanche Recorded At Minnesota Ski Area

Wild Mountain, Minnesota, where an avalanche occurred the other night.

When we think of avalanches in the United States, most people think of them occurring on the big mountains of the Rockies or in California, not on the smaller slopes of the Midwest. However where ever there’s snow there’s the possibility of an avalanche, and a recent slide at a Minnesota Ski Area demonstrated that.

Minnesota’s Wild Mountain shared an image of an avalanche that occurred on “The Wall”, what they consider to be their most legendary run. It happened at night with one of their snowmaking piles collapsing and sliding down the face. Fortunately nobody was caught or involved in the slide on the double black trail.

Wild Mountain is home to around 25 trails and 9 lifts. As of December 16th, 7 lifts are open to skiers and snowboarders along with 20 trails. The mountain is open from 10am-9pm everyday except Fridays, when they’re open until 10pm.

While there were no people involved in this avalanche, it does act as a reminder to stay off closed trails, no matter how great the snow may look. There are hidden dangers, including the possibility of slides, no matter where you are in the country or world.
