Lynx & Kitten Spotted On The Slopes of Lake Louise Ski Resort

Lynx & Kitten @ Lake Louise Ski Resort

Exquisite wildlife footage captured on the slopes of Lake Louise Ski Resort in Alberta, Canada where a group of skiers where lucky enough to spot a mother lynx and her kitten emerge from the woods and sit in some freshly carved ski tracks.

The observers kept a respectable distance from the elusive wild felines and shouted warnings to other skiers in the area to watch out for the pair.

Lake Louise Ski Resort is known to have resident Canada lynx that have been periodically seen on or near the runs. While encounters remain rare, sightings have increased in recent years as a family group seems to have taken up residence near the ski area. Here’s another lynx family sighting from February 9th, 2024 when racer Kyleigh McConnell of the Lake Louise Ski Club had to throw on the breaks to avoid some lynx during a downhill run at the resort.

Despite being elusive creatures that generally avoid humans, it is thought the lynx have taken up habitat at the ski resort as the open runs, glades trees and edge habitat around the lift corridors support snowshoe hares and other small prey, drawing lynx into the disturbed zone despite noise and people.

Both the Lake Louise and Parks Canada stress the importance of “treating every lynx sighting as a privilege” and maintaining a proper distance in the off chance you get to lay eyes on one. Never approach a lynx or attempt to feed them.

Jealous of these lucky skiers who got to enjoy a powder day and share a moment with these incredible animals.
