New Hampshire Ski Resort Already Has Over 50 Trails Open

Lincoln, New Hampshire — It’s no secret that the Northeast is having a stellar start to the 2025-26 ski season. The ingredients for rapid terrain expansion, which include cold temperatures and natural snowstorms, have been present. For those with strong snowmaking systems, it’s meant rapid expansion of terrain.
Loon Mountain Resort opened for the season on November 21st with 14 trails. The trail count has steadily grown since, with a rapid increase over the past week.
On Friday, Loon opened up three of its black diamond trails for natural (a.k.a. no man-made snow) skiing. Angel Street, Basin Street, and Big Dipper opened up. These openings were thanks to the 10 inches of natural snow received during the middle of last week. This was followed up on Saturday by the opening of South Peak and Timbertown. Currently, Loon has 53 trails open, with snowmaking now focused on the Little Sister trail.
Loon Mountain has a few cold days ahead, so we’ll see if they can add some more trails by the weekend.
“It’s hard to imagine a better start to the season… Looking back at our records to the early 2000s, we’ve never had this much terrain open this early in the season,” said Brian Norton, the General Manager of Loon, in a statement to Boston.com.
Other New Hampshire ski resorts are also nearing more than 50 trails open. Bretton Woods has 48 trails open, Waterville has 40 trails available for ripping, and Cannon has 36 pistes and glades available. For now, Loon leads the pack.
