20+" of Snow Allows Snowmass To Open Top-to-Bottom Terrain

While other ski areas are hurting for snow, Aspen Mountain and Aspen Snowmass are celebrating a storm that allowed them to open terrain. The Colorado ski resorts have received 21″ of snow this week, adding a healthy amount to their 13″ base depth.

This last storm allowed the resort to open one of its four mountains, Snowmass, from top to bottom. As of Friday, December 5, 2025, Village Express is open and allowing terrain access from Sam’s Knob to Snowmass Village. Aspen Mountain will join Snowmass with top-to-bottom skiing on Saturday, December 6.

The recent terrain openings at Snowmass and planned openings for Aspen Mountain will mean that the resort currently has the most open vertical feet of skiing in the state. Snowmass boasts over 4,000 vertical feet of skiing, with Aspen Mountain not far behind at 3,267 feet of vert. The other two mountains in Aspen’s four-peak lineup, Aspen Highlands and Buttermilk, are scheduled to open for the season on Saturday, December 13, 2025.

In celebration of the new open terrain, Aspen Mountain is hosting a party from 12:30-3:30pm on Saturday, December 6 at the Sundeck. The festivities will include music by local band, Leche and drink specials.

Later this season, Buttermilk will once again host the U.S. Grand Prix from January 7-10, the X Games’ 25th Anniversary from January 23-25, and the Snow League from February 27-28.

Forecasts show that Aspen will continue to benefit from this cycle over the next few days with another 8″ of snow predicted to fall. Other mountains in Colorado will hopefully also see the benefits of this upcoming storm with mountains like Vail, Loveland, A Basin, Beaver Creek, Breckendridge, and Copper Mountain predicted to get more than a foot of snow. Steamboat is currently in the lead with 30″ forecasted over the next five days.
