Deer Valley Ski Resort Sets New Opening Date as Major Utah Storm Approaches

After a warm and slow start, ski season is finally starting to get underway in Utah.

Deer Valley will kick off the 2025-26 season on Friday, December 5, for a passholder appreciation day. A general public opening follows on Saturday.

The early season terrain offerings include three runs—Birdseye, Silver Link, and Success—serviced by three chairlifts: Carpenter Express, Sterling Express, and Homestake Express.

Skiers will start their days at the Snow Park Lodge. The Deer Valley East Village, a recent addition, is slated to open later this month as snowmaking and terrain preparation allow.

“This year’s opening carries special meaning as we celebrate our 45th winter season and continue advancing one of the most historic periods of growth in Deer Valley’s history,” said Todd Bennett, President and COO of Deer Valley, in a news release.

Deer Valley, indeed, is growing.

While the terrain offerings will be comparatively small this coming weekend, Deer Valley is getting ready to unveil an enormous slate of new runs and lifts this winter. Seven new chairlifts are set to open, pushing the resort’s acreage to 4,300—one of the largest ski area footprints on the continent.

Deer Valley is among several Utah mountains opening this week. Its neighbor, Park City, will start the season on December 5. Brighton opened on Tuesday, December 2. Alta Ski Area is aiming for December 6, according to Ski Utah.

Those openings follow a slew of weather delays across Utah ski resorts. November proved mild and largely snowless in the state.

But the coming days could see the return of winter. Some mountains have already picked up snow. The “big enchilada,” as meteorologist Chris Tomer put it, however, is set to arrive this weekend with multiple feet possible in the Wasatch range through December 8.

At Deer Valley, specifically, OpenSnow is calling for 16 inches of snow in the next one to five days. Hopefully, by Sunday, skiers across the Beehive State will be scoring powder turns, overshadowing memories of a dry November.
