8 Skiers Rescued After Massive Avalanche Strikes Austrian Ski Resort
We are happy report there were no fatalities after a massive avalanche swept through Stubai Glacier Ski Resort in the Tyrolian Alps of Austria on Thanksgiving day.

A large scale rescue operation was immediately launched to find survivors involving 250 people including mountain rescue teams, avalanche dogs, and helicopters.
Eight skiers were buried by the avalanche, five men and three women. All eight were successfully rescued alive. The skiers nationalities were German, Bulgarian and Austrian. Four suffered minor injured and two airlifted to a local hospital. The group was skiing off-piste when they triggered the avalanche.

The avalanche occurred in the Daunscharte pass, an off-piste section of the resort. Some skiers were wearing avalanche airbag backpacks which they deployed.
