Soelden Introduces Alcohol Free Zone in Town Centre
The new rule comes into force on December 1st.
It seems locals have had enough of the rowdy and drunken behaviour of some.
The bars will continue to be open but the new ordinance says the consumption of alcohol and the carrying of open bottles or cups outdoors is prohibited in the designated zone.
“More and more guests went outside the bars to smoke and continued to party on the sidewalk with alcohol,” said the Deputy Mayor, Maximilian Riml, to the Krone newspaper.
“Unreasonable noise nuisance for local residents, broken beer glasses on the sidewalks and other messes were the result.”
It is reported that the bars have responded positively to the measure.
The alcohol ban will be fully monitored by security forces.
Failure to comply could result in fines of up to €2,000.
The ban is initially valid until April 19, 2026, when it will be evaluated.

Ischgl has also faced similar problems and in 2016 introduced a ban on people wearing ski boots in town after 8pm.
