Yad Moss has a single tow lift that opens when, and if, there is enough snow.

Thursday 20th is one such day, and the area made the announcement of its opening on Wednesday.

The lift is reached after a 10 minute uphill walk from the roadside car parking.

The auto-stacking Poma lift is 585m long and climbs 125m in vertical height.

It moves up to 600 skiers and snowboarders per hour with a ride time of about 3 minutes.

It provides access to runs of up to 800m in length.

When conditions are good the area has around 4kms of varied intermediate skiing and plenty of ‘characterful’ off-piste.

On a good winter it is open for around 40 days each season.

“We are a Community Amateur Sports Club run by unpaid volunteers,” said the area on its web site.

” We are open to all skiers, snowboarders and Telemarkers and also have Associate Memberships available to non-skiing adults or those currently unable to ski or board at Yad Moss.

“Every penny we take is ploughed back in to improve the facilities for recreational snowsports.

“Over the last 50 years we have been able to provide accessible lift served skiing in this part of the high Pennines.”

Further north in Scotland the ski areas are seeing some snow.

Cairngorm has opened its Polar Express at the top of the resort, but it is a beginner run that is 50m long.

“Come on up this afternoon for a ride on the funicular and wee play if you fancy,” the resort said on  Thursday.

It later announced that more terrain will be open over the weekend, from Friday 21st to Sunday 23rd.

There will be a marked run from Ptarmigan Top Station → Middle Station via the Traverse, 105 and Zig Zags.

Uplift will be via the Funicular Railway only, that opens at 10am.

The Lower slopes remain closed, but the team is monitoring conditions closely.

Reduced-rate Snowsports Day Pass: £27 Adults / £17 Juniors.

It is advanced booking only with 100 passes available each day.

The resort advises not travel if you have not booked a lift pass.

The Nevis Range:

Glencoe is using the cold temperatures to make snow.
